Dried foods are those that have been prepared and stored without losing moisture. Most of these foods are best suited for freezing or being preserved for later consumption. Dried foods are also a convenient and cheap way of preserving your favorite meals so you don’t have to go to the grocery store and buy a new one. Dehydrating is one of the five ways to preserve dried foods. Dehydration happens when the moisture content of the food goes down below 40% while it is at room temperature. Air-dried foods are usually processed before they reach the point of dehydration. Air-dried fruits and vegetables will retain almost all of their moisture. Fruits and vegetables can be brought to room temperature by placing them in a salad bowl and covering with aluminum foil.

Another way to dry foods is by conditioning fruits and vegetables, before they are placed in containers. Air-conditioned and low moisture foods can be placed in airtight bags or containers and frozen immediately. Fruits and vegetables that are not pre-conditioned can be stored in moist containers in the refrigerator. Once they are totally dry, store them in airtight containers king nafoods.

Dried foods are not only good to store, but they’re also good to cook. The foods can be dehydrated for dinner or made into soup, salad dressing, stew or soup. Microwaves can be used to dehydrate foods, but the microwaves designed for home use are generally not well suited for dehydrating foods larger than a cup or smaller. Dehydrators with longer diets can be purchased if you plan on dehydrating a lot of foods. They will also keep drying time down to about an hour. Some microwaves will have trays or baskets that can be used for dehydrating; you should test out the specifications before buying a dehydrator.
